Something cool–Chinese dance

I’m going to see the Shen Yun Performing Arts group next month while they’re in Springfield. I’ll post more about it after seeing the show, but from what I’ve read so far, it’s a New York-based organization that adds a ton of extra layers to classical Chinese dance. I’ve seen a bunch of signs all over the place, from here (Springfield) to Texas (Dallas).

The date is pretty far off, so maybe you’ll be more interested after I do a little more of a write-up on it. But! I think it’s a good idea to mention that it will be in Chicago on April 10 and 11 for three shows (two evening, one afternoon matinee). The show will be at the Civic Opera House and will feature a live orchestra.

And if controversy would pique your interest a little more, rest assured that controversy is present. The Hong Kong Immigration Department denied visas to several of the group’s production team members only three days before their sold-out Hong Kong shows because, they insisted, “these production jobs could be filled locally.” Legitimate request or attempt to keep an anti-Communist Chinese heritage group out of the country? You decide.
